Welcome on our homepage "Biophotonik International" (Biophotonics). You can read here the current and most essential news about the international development of Biophotonics. This is a field of science that has been introduced by our international group: International Institute of Biophysics (www.lifescientists.de).

Definition of Biophotons and Biophotonics

News:

– The IIB, leading group of Biophotonics and Biophotons in the World and - in particular - in Asia and Europe, finished the yearly Summer School in Neuss (Germany), including a Herbert-Fröhlich-Centenary Symposium, on August 21. The participants (from 19 nations over the whole world) expressed enthusiastically their enjoyment and gratification. All of them intend to come again to the next Summer School (August 13 to 19, 2006). An example of a response is typical for the satisfaction of the students:

"Thank you to the teachers as well as to all participants, who taught me again that there are no limits but the ones we put to ourselves. I feel that spirit, that the future has already started and I am happy to be able for being so close to it". Click here to read more information...

– Report of the International Conference on Biophotons and Biophotonics (ICBB), October 12-16, in Beijing.

Apart from the 4 talks in the plenary session, the conference was divided into two parts, i.e. biophotons and biophotonics. While "biophotons" refer to more scientific work on the interactions of light and living systems, "biophotonics"can be assigned to the more technical questions of this field. Consequently, the "Biophoton sessions" were mainly devoted to the rather rapid increase in the knowledge about correlation of spontaneous and stimulated emission ("delayed luminescence") of photons from living systems (cells, cell organelles,. , simple living systems up to the human body) and the biological and physiological "state" of the subjects under study. Examples were reports about new evidence of squeezed light in living systems, observations and new evidence of distinct oscillations in biophoton emission and delayed luminescence, correlations of biophoton parameters to defense mechanisms in plants, the significance of spectral properties of biophotons, new results in investigations of biophoton emission related to the the malignancy of cancer tissues, symmetry of biophoton emission of the human body and the question of disease, the role of oxidative processes in biophoton emission, and luminol dependent chemiluminescence as a tool of indicating environmental pollutions. The "Biophotonics sessions" covered a broad spectrum of new tools, among others, i.e. Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET), Two Photon Fluorescence Anisotropy Imaging, New Tools in Microscopy, Tissue Oxygenation Monitoring, Near Infrared and Multichannel Raman Spectroscopy, Full-field Optical Coherence Tomography. Photosensitizers. The Technical development will be taken up by Hamamatsu Photonics in Japan. The talks of the plenary sessions and most essential talks of this conference will be published in 2004 as Proceedings in one of the most reputed Publishing House.

Here we present a paper of Prof. Dr. W. Klimek about the basic theory of biophotons. Starting with this elementary review we will built up step by step the most essential milestones and guidelines of biophoton research and biophotonics. In 2005 there will appear the first text book about Biophotons and Biophotonics, again published by the outstanding Publishing House.

Summer School about Biophotonics in our Institute.- Summaries of all papers will appear here step by step.

1. Biophotonics - a review, Klimek W. (former advisor of the ministery of research in Germany)

According to eight gradings about Biophotonics, performed by most competent and independent referees of USA, Asia and Europe, the IIB is the most reputed scientific group on Biophotonics. The scientists around Prof. Dr. Fritz-Albert Popp have been assessed as representing the leadership on this new field that has been founded by this group. One of the most outsanding scientific Publishing House asked F.A.Popp to write the first substantial textbook about Biophotonics. The IIB is asked to write consecutive volumes in a series about Biophotonics. The books will report about the basic science and technology of biophotonics, the most interesting scientific results, the always current development and interdisciplinary aspects of biophotonics.
